Good Enough (it's a Van Halen song)

After Eddie Van Halen died, I started drawing and painting portraits of Van Halen again for the first time since 1996. This is one of those paintings. Oil on canvas. ALMOST done.

Still goin'!

This is #4 in my "Sammy Flyin' High" series (I still don't have a title for the series. It's Sammy Hagar jumping), roughly 36x48 and done in oil paint. It's not done yet, but there's not alot left to do.

The Sammy show Saga continues...

I am still trying to set up an exhibit focusing on my Sammy Hagar series (part of my "Heroes/Inspiration" series)in Detroit that coincides with the Chickenfoot concert (the band that Sammy is currently part of), to share my view with other Hagar fans (REDHEADS!!!). I'm not doing it to make money because my Sammy series is "Not 4 Sale" (title of one of his albums and songs). It's more for the exposure but mostly just to give the Redheads a place to go prior to the concert where they can walk around, hang out and not be in a drinking environment. I know that alot of concert-goers like to get blitzed before the show even starts, and to each their own, but this would be a safer environment. I also think that it would be great to get a different group of people into whatever venue might show my exhibit, and give them more foot traffic.
I'm currently working on more paintings for the series in between commission work. Once I get more work done, I'll post it here and HERE only!

Reach for the sky

I have a new goal. It involves others believing in what I'm trying to accomplish. Bear with me.
Chickenfoot, the band Sammy Hagar writes and sings in, is performing at The Fillmore in Detroit. I had it in my head that the next venue he performed at, I would try to organize an art exhibit of my Sammy Hagar series in a venue as close to whereever Sammy was playing at as possible. The exhibit would be for Sammy's fans who are in the area for the show to view, and to show my appreciation and admiration of Sammy. I have the date of the show and the place of the concert. I now need to get the gallery or other venue to exhibit my work. I have one gallery that's just down the street from the Fillmore.
What I would like is for you, the reader, to contact the surrounding galleries and mention my name, or give them my site, but just get a bug in the galleries' ears. The Detroit Artist Market is the closest, and I'm going to try to contact them very soon. The concert's May 14th!!! We must move FAST!!! Maybe a word to some local rock stations would help, too....

KICKSTARTING IT AGAIN!

I'm trying Kickstarter again, but this time, I've lowered the goal and reduced the deadline to 5 days. I'm asking people who like my artwork to either back the project (minimum pledge of $2) or at least spread the word about it. You can get more details and pledge HERE
When you pledge, you DO NOT get charged! If the goal is met and the project is successful, THEN you get charged. And it's all-or-nothing: If the goal's NOT met, I get nothing. If the goal's met, I get funded (and if the goal is met and people keep pledging, I get that, too).

Dick in the Dirt (NO! It's a HAGAR song!!!)

Well, my confidence is fleeting. Lack of funds are probably going to keep my wife and I from going to see Sammy Hagar and the Wabos at Common Ground tomorrow. I'm VERY bummed. I've been working on drawings and paintings for Sammy and the band, but it might just collect dust. But it's not just about the art, it's the energy and inspiration his shows offer. The camaraderie of the fans, teh REDHEADS, is overwhelming! Plus, just the fact that all this planning takes place, only to have 1or 3 things come up that wipe out what little money we've saved. Ha-RUMPH!

So, anyone wanna buy some artwork? :D

Look what I did!!

So, I competed in the Art de Combat 4 at Enchante Gallery on March 27th. I did not place, but I'm quite happy with the painting I did. It started out BAD, but about a half hour before the competition ended (a 3 hour battle, a 3 hour battle), I was done, so the oil painting only took about 2 1/2 hours to do. I was in the mood to paint a redhead and I'd chosen images of Ann Margret and Maureen O'Hara, but went with Mrs. Margret. The piece sold in the silent auction.

Hagar Story!!

As some of you may know, I am a fan of Sammy Hagar. Let's just leave it at that.

Well, in 2004 Sammy opened a Cabo Wabo Cantina, based on his club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in South Lake Tahoe at Harrah's. As the first US based Cabo, I wanted to show my appreciation of the music and spirit of Sammy and Cabo by painting a series of paintings of Sammy. One was from a fan club called Sam~Land that I am also a part of and the others were from me and ONLY me!!!! HAHAHAHHA!!!

Anyway, one of the Redheads/SamLanders, Michigan Mike, took the paintings to Tahoe on my behalf and with the assistance of another fan, handed Sammy the paintings. They now hang in the "Red Rocker Room" and I have seen since then photos of the paintings still. I have decided to make prints of two of the three and they are now

Above are images of the paintings at the "Tahoe Wabo", one with Sammy with the SamLand painting, and a pic taken by a fellow Redhead of Aaron Hagar in the "Red Rocker Room" under the "What Is Understood..." painting!
