"Hero Worship" about my Hero I worship

I just found a video on Youtube put together in honor of Sergio Aragones and his artwork. It's a fan video, a slideshow really. They even added a photo of me with Sergio

If you know me, you know my undying devotion to the great Senor Aragones. I have written about him a few times here, as any fool can plainly see (if you type his name in the search).

My Photography

I couldn't remember if I'd posted images of my black and white photography. Here are some, and HERE are more
Back in 1996 when I started college, I wanted to draw and paint from my own photos. I got tired of relying on others' images to work from. I was able to choose the subject, lighting and location. Well, once I got into the class, I REALLY got into it, and black and white photography became it's own beast. Instead of just using them as reference material, it became another medium for me. I still love the feel, the grain, the power in emotion I can orchestrate through the lens. And I still have the same camera I started with. These images might be photos of photos, so they might be blurry, but the actual photos aren't out of focus. Most likely.

Miss Fix It

Thank you AMY, my old friend (not old like ancient, mind you). She helped me with my blogging. She also recommended I start a blog to begin with. So BLAME HER if you don't like me here!

Fan fare

A friend of mine set up a fan page for me on Facebook, or rather my artwork. Here's a link
I've been doing most of the posting, but mainly to get artwork on there and some info. It would be nice to hear feedback, people's photos, etc. It's an attempt to get my artwork out there to a wider range of people, in hopes of being "discovered". At least, I think that's why the creator of the page did it.

About to quit this blog

I just deleted 56 damn spam posts in a 2 day period. I cannot get it to stop. I keep asking for help, writing blogger and google, to no avail. I am seriously considering closing up shop here at my blog. I can't get any help to stop this. I don't want visitors to see ads for sex, computers and other SHIT. That is what it is.

ARTIST NEEDS STUDIO (but needs money first!)

For months I have been yearning for a studio space away from the house. The basement studio just ain't woikin'! I can't get down to work, and if I do, I get distracted by fighting kids and angry mommy upstairs, working on laundry and the floor flooding because the drain is clogged. Plus the lighting isn't the best. If I have a PAID FOR studio, then I have a "legit" reason to go to work. Plus, it would be a place for people to view my work, me working, I could set up models, art lessons, display work, etc. And my supplies wouldn't get ruined by every day wear and tear of kids and dampness.
BUT, I don't have any paying gigs right now. I have some that have already paid and some who I'm waiting for payment, but not enough to cover a single month's rent. The space I'm looking at is 2 1/2 blocks away from home, in the center of downtown West Branch. It is an upstairs office space, but the price is great and the space is enough for me. I have enough right now to cover 2 months' rent, but I don't want to commit when I don't have solid work on the table.
SOOOOOO, want some artwork?? :D

STOP HACKING ME

Ok, now I am IRATE. I saw that I was not only hacked again, but some of it were ads for viagra and other sex-related product. I've written to "blogger" or google and haven't heard anything. I DID NOT ENDORSE SEX MEDS!! I want to make that clear! If I was getting paid by the company then I would. But I'm not.
I also don't advertise for computer equipment or programs. If you see such posts, ignore them.

Birthday condolences

Today is a very sensitive day in my family, as it is the 7th birthday of my niece's daughter, Aileen Nuttall, who drowned last August on a trip with friends to a lake, hosted by the friends' church. There was too little adults and too many kids and she was left to drown. Her mom was home alone when she got the news. I'm posting here because I don't want to draw alot of attention to the family right now. Her grandpa, my oldest brother, took the loss of his only grandchild very badly and the entire family is experiencing February 13th without her for the first time in 7 years. Every holiday is tough and my heart truly breaks for them. She was a bright girl whose entrance into this world changed 6 people very strongly, making them stronger and joyous in spite of personal disasters. My daughter is 6 months older than Aileen and every time I look at her big blue eyes, I think of the emptiness my niece and brother feel.
Happy Birthday, Bjorn. We all miss you. We all love you.

Yet another link to my pics

Here's a link to all the photos I've posted on this here blog if you don't have the patience to go through the slideshow on top of this page.
Here's a sample-

The drawing is of comic artist Stan Sakai, given to him in 2007.

Another combat coming...

This is a video made by Josh Jurgess of the Art de Combat II, an art battle hosted by Enchante Gallery. This was the first one I participated in. Coming soon will be Art de Combat 4, which I will most likely be competing in again. It's a very fun experience, creating artwork in a 3 hour time frame against other artists. There are cash prizes and a silent auction afterwards of the artwork created that day/night. Take a gander

SOMEBODY likes me!

A friend of mine created a fan page for yers truly! Apparently, some folks out there support my climb to success. It feels great knowing people support you, especially when you're conflicted with your own doubts. MIND YOU, this is a fan page for NUTTALL ART, as in my artwork. If you are a fan of my artwork, please sign up and tell others to, as well. Who knows where this journey's gonna take me.

The Hustler

OOPS! I never posted my drawing I did of the late, great Paul Newman. I donated it to an auction to raise money for a friend who has cancer. It just felt right, since Mr. Newman was such a giving individual and also suffered from cancer.

Sack the Hacking

Ok, this is the third time I've been hacked. I am getting very aggravated. But I will not quit!
I am close to getting a studio space! My problem has been no money, as business died right after Christmas and some of the promising prospects that were supposed to move me positively into the new year seems to have folded up and disappeared, in spite of my best efforts. If I do get this studio space, I will use it to draw, paint, possibly photo shoots, meetings and lessons. It will also be used to display work. It would be an open studio, as in people can come in whenever I'm there and see what I do. I'm a very open artist. I'm used to creating with an audience. I also hope to have a kind of an open house/grand opening. Nothing big, some Doritos and punch. The disadvantage to the space is that it's an upstairs office space with no handicap access. I will keep everyone up to date. Until then, here's a piece that I have very nearly finished.

Is my art easily accessible here?

If you'd like to view my artwork but don't want to search the blog, you can click on the slideshow on top of the page, click on a link on the left hand side of the page, or click HERE. I'm also on Facebook , Myspace and Twitter
I'm still dreaming of my own studio, and there's a slim chance it may come true. It's an upstairs office space in downtown West Branch. I'm really excited, but leary about getting so excited. If I get the studio, I can't get supplies, and vice versa. I yam torned.

Wanna do the Cabo Wabo (but my wife won't let me!)

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The club is owned by Sammy Hagar. If you know me, you know my dedication and hero worshipping of Mr. Hagar (the Red Rocker). I really want to do a LARGE painting of the Cabo Wabo right now, but I can't get the painting to Cabo when it's done and I have nowhere here at home to put it when it's done! The inspiration and GUSHING right now! I need a towel!

Another HACK job

Ok, I have been hacked AGAIN! I apologize to any newcomers who've recently viewed my blog and found the crap that was posted.
