Post-Studio Update

Since closing Nuttall Art Studio November 2nd, 2013, I have only been working on projects that I'd been previously hired for. They were projects for clients for Christmas. These are the pieces- And on November 2nd, I competed in Art de Combat 8 at Enchante` Gallery in West Branch. I tied first place by drawing this oil pastel in 3 hours- I have also changed my appearance drastically for the first time in 14 years, but I won't be posting an image of THAT.

Crushed dream

NOVEMBER 1st NUTTALL ART STUDIO WILL BE CLOSING ITS DOORS. One week from tomorrow will be the last day NUTTALL ART STUDIO will be open. It wasn't an easy decision, but there just hasn't been enough business to bring in monthly rent in the last few months, and there's not enough interest by the community. For 3 years I've struggled to keep this studio open, with MANY near-closings. But I look around the studio and I built it. I MADE that studio. Each piece of artwork on the walls was carefully placed, as well as carefully created. I turned a small office space and an ignored storage room into what it is today. And next week, it reverts back to a small office space and a storage room next door. I've had alot of help keeping the studio open this long, but I get tired of asking for help. I don't want to be that guy. People keep asking me what I'll do when the studio closes. Grieve. I'm constantly looking for a job, and now it's just that much more important to find one. I've been looking for 4 years and applied dozens of times to many companies, but I never get a call back or if I do, I don't get hired. Any projects I haven't finished for paying clients I will finish at home. I cannot conduct a business from my domicile, however, due to rules and regulations of the apartment complex owners. The artwork in the studio will be put in a storage unit and lessons will no longer be offered. I think that answers all the questions people have asked since I've had to face this reality. Oh, except that I don't see myself working on art after paid projects are finished. If you would like to buy artwork you've seen in the studio, contact me ASAP. If you would like to show your support of what I do, please attend ART de COMBAT 8 on Saturday, November 2nd, 2013 at Enchante` Gallery on Refinery Rd. in West Branch, Michigan. You can view the event on the Facebook event page HERE or on the Enchante` Gallery website HERE . It costs $20 to enter the event, and from there you vote for your favorite artwork being created on the spot, and eat and drink ALL you WANT!

American Icons

I just had to. 'Nuff said. Oh, and it's not done yet.

Save the Studio/Customer Appreciation Day at the Studio

This Saturday, September 28th, at Nuttall Art Studio, is a Customer Appreciation Day. The 2 goals for this are: to show my customers my thanks and to raise money to keep the studio open so the local schools can continue to be offered free tours and lessons (while touring), so lessons are still available for all ages, and much more. Bring money. Tell your friends and family. IF YOU BELIEVE in this studio and/or my artwork, stop in. It goes from 12:30-5:30, with snacks and drinks. If you attend, you WILL NOT walk away empty-handed!! Please make sure you sign the sign-in sheet, or put your name on a slip of paper and put in the "attendance" box with your e-mail or mailing address. Also, I will have a donation box at the event to raise funds for a portrait for Nate Payne's family. A West Branch family has lost a member of their family, and the father is in critical condition in the hospital after the two were involved in a car accident. It has shaken the community quite a bit, as he was a popular kid. I want to help, but since I'm struggling to keep the studio (and my sanity), I can only give what I can offer, which is my ability to draw and paint. I will accept ANY amount donated and do a drawing or painting for the family of Nate Payne and his family. If I wasn't throwing this event to save the studio, I would do the artwork for free, and to frame it costs money. I wouldn't want to give them artwork that they have to frame. The family WILL get the drawing at no cost to them. Please spread the word.

Published!

I did illustrations for a coloring book created by Louise Adkins of Hale, Michigan. It's called "Chuckwagon Adventures", printed by Big Horse Books in Hale. Mrs. Adkins is the owner of "Royal Carriage Company", specializing in horse-drawn carriages for events. I didn't draw the cover, but the illustration shown here is by yers truly. If you have kids who are horse-lovers, or just like to color!

The Best They Is At What They Do!

This would be a dream come true for me: Popeye and Groo crossover. It will never happen, so I entertain myself with these little scenes (I actually had, or have, a story mapped out where they WOULD crossover).

This was a gift I made for the great Sergio Aragones`. It's a ceramic rattle (I learned it from my ceramicist wife!).

Happy Sergio Day!!! Favorite videos (playlist)

To celebrate Sergio Aragones`' 76th birthday, I thought I'd share one of the greatest moments (non-family related) of my life: Sergio drawing not only him, not only GROO, but ME!!

It ain't all real, ya know

I get into moods. Right now, I wanna do some cartooning. I've been drawing alot of Popeye and a little Groo. Working on realism sets a little tedious sometimes. So, this is what I did the last couple days. I'm planning on coloring them when I get the chance.
