In da PicTures

I haven't posted about this in awhile, but I WOULD appreciate if you check out the mini web series Pauline Johnson is creating about me and my art career. If you would "like" the videos and share it, maybe we can do more with it! This is kind of the first segment.

Let's Get It On (the drawing. Let's onto the drawing)

I did a drawing for a Bay City samaritan to give to Marvin Gaye III, son of legend Marvin Gaye. It's a charcoal drawing.

Hey there, cats 'n' kittens! It's been awhile since the last post, I know. I thought I'd share a recent drawing I did for "Blast the Blues" that's still in the studio. It's 18x24 charcoal of "Slowhand" Eric Clapton. Normally, I charge $216 for this size, but I'm only asking $100 for this one.

Here's the series so far (including a photo rendering of Sammy that's NOT him in mid-air)...

Times are tough, times are hard...

Originally this painting was for ads for a classic rock station, but they, well, quit taking my calls, basically. They wanted me to paint their top 10 bands they play. I put them, and added my own. They also wanted Roth-era Van Halen. I couldn't do that, so I put Hagar AND Roth with Eddie. I put in the "Michigan trifecta" of Seger, Nugent and Alice. I added Stevie Ray Vaughan. I put in the entirety of Zeppelin because that's how it should be. With Aerosmith, I just didn't wanna give Steven Tyler the facetime as the rep for the band.
Anyway, due to the size, it's $794, but right now I'm willing to take $400 for it. Tell yer friends 'n' neighbors.

Rant on

I keep getting posts and updates about art competitions, but I can't enter them because they cost money and I have none. I haven't sold anything in too long and haven't been hired for anything in over a month. I'm 2 1/2 months late on rent. Things aren't looking good.

Still goin'!

This is #4 in my "Sammy Flyin' High" series (I still don't have a title for the series. It's Sammy Hagar jumping), roughly 36x48 and done in oil paint. It's not done yet, but there's not alot left to do.

What I'm down with

I am trying to set up a few things in the West Branch area that I'm hoping will bring together the community a little bit-

CosPlay (short for "costume play",[1] is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Characters are often drawn from popular fiction in Japan, but recent trends have included American cartoons and science fiction such as Disney.[citation needed] Favorite sources include cmanga, anime, tokusatsu,[clarification needed] comic books, graphic novels, video games, hentai and fantasy movies. Any entity from the real or virtual world that lends itself to dramatic interpretation may be taken up as a subject. Inanimate objects are given anthropomorphic forms and it is not unusual to see genders switched, with women playing male roles and vice versa. There is also a subset of cosplay culture centered around sex appeal, with cosplayers specifically choosing characters that are known for their attractiveness and/or revealing (even explicit) costumes.
Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture centred around role play. A broader use of the term cosplay applies to any costumed role play in venues apart from the stage, regardless of the cultural context.)
in West Branch, maybe during one of the Fabulous Fridays events downtown.

Enchante Gallery Presents: Figure Drawing/Painting Workshop w/ Nuttall Art - I will be conducting a workshop on how to draw or paint the human figure with a live model. It takes place May 5th at Enchante` Gallery and the cost is $20 (to pay the male and female models and for use of the gallery)

NUTTALL ART STUDIO'S 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! - Saturday, April 21,from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the studio. Free snacks, giveaways, and $1 raffle!

I'll also be doing events like the West Branch Art & Wine Walk, Blast the Blues at Dean Arbour, Fabulous Friday's Art in the Street, and maybe another Art de Combat.

Web series

This project's a few years in the making (it took a long time for the filmmaker to make me look interesting!), but Pauline Johnson of Detroit is making a web docu-series about my art. This is the first episode.

The Sammy show Saga continues...

I am still trying to set up an exhibit focusing on my Sammy Hagar series (part of my "Heroes/Inspiration" series)in Detroit that coincides with the Chickenfoot concert (the band that Sammy is currently part of), to share my view with other Hagar fans (REDHEADS!!!). I'm not doing it to make money because my Sammy series is "Not 4 Sale" (title of one of his albums and songs). It's more for the exposure but mostly just to give the Redheads a place to go prior to the concert where they can walk around, hang out and not be in a drinking environment. I know that alot of concert-goers like to get blitzed before the show even starts, and to each their own, but this would be a safer environment. I also think that it would be great to get a different group of people into whatever venue might show my exhibit, and give them more foot traffic.
I'm currently working on more paintings for the series in between commission work. Once I get more work done, I'll post it here and HERE only!

Another Dream might go up in smoke

There looks like a mighty big snag on my "Red Rocker Exhibit" in Detroit. The manager of the gallery told me they're booked for the next 2 years and the time between the shows are so short they only have time to prep the gallery for the next exhibit.
I'm going to keep trying with this gallery, and also look for other possible venues near The Fillmore.

Reach for the sky

I have a new goal. It involves others believing in what I'm trying to accomplish. Bear with me.
Chickenfoot, the band Sammy Hagar writes and sings in, is performing at The Fillmore in Detroit. I had it in my head that the next venue he performed at, I would try to organize an art exhibit of my Sammy Hagar series in a venue as close to whereever Sammy was playing at as possible. The exhibit would be for Sammy's fans who are in the area for the show to view, and to show my appreciation and admiration of Sammy. I have the date of the show and the place of the concert. I now need to get the gallery or other venue to exhibit my work. I have one gallery that's just down the street from the Fillmore.
What I would like is for you, the reader, to contact the surrounding galleries and mention my name, or give them my site, but just get a bug in the galleries' ears. The Detroit Artist Market is the closest, and I'm going to try to contact them very soon. The concert's May 14th!!! We must move FAST!!! Maybe a word to some local rock stations would help, too....

Anger Managed

I haven't posted this painting because I don't want to show EVERYTHING I've done online so there'd be some unseen artwork in the studio or art shows. But, I really like this painting (which is bigger than 36"x48") and it's one of the most popular pieces in my studio. It's an oil painting of Jack Nicholson, titled "Anger Managed".
